A year has passed and we feel that is too long so Quinten offered to make this a regular Quarterly engagement with Mayor Adler. We will set aside a complete hour every three months for the Mayor to discuss progress in the Arts, Music and Creative ecosystem in Austin on the show 'Austin Artists' from 1:00-1:30 pm c and then on
'Reflections of Community Outreach' from 1:30 - 2:00 pm c Mayor Adler can discuss any current issues he wants to focus on.
I first met Mayor Adler at the launch of the Leadership Austin Conversation Corps. two years ago. His speech inspired me to participate. It is basically what I am already doing on the radio shows. We have conversations with people about certain community topics.
This is why I created the #AustinAbility series; to parse out the issues and discuss them at length. Since then we have had experts, information specialists and community leaders and organizations in to discuss Affordability, Mobility, Bicycling, Breathe-ability , Green Space, Sustainability, CodeNEXT, Zoning, and much more.
To set the Arc for the conversation on this broadcast;
on the show Austin Artists we discuss
the Austin Music and Creative Ecosystem Omnibus resolution
the first 15 minutes focus on Exhibit A ( Music Industry)
the second 15 minutes we focus on Exhibit B ( the Arts Sector)
Then Reflections of Community Outreach is dedicated to CodeNEXT
We are honored to have Dave Sullivan participate in the discussion and contribute his expertise and insights. We are fortunate to have Dave in the community working on things. He works in many areas of Community issues, from Code NEXT, to Music, the Arts, Bicycling, Mobilit, Affordability and the Environment.
We will also have Dave back periodically to help us all have a better understanding of current issues.
The one common priority between Music and Arts is the need for streamline permitting and licensing and issues related to Code NEXT.
We notice that Arts and Music can seem to be in their own Silo, but we try to connect the two on the show and believe that they face similar issues and can collaborate on common solutions. Perhaps a joint meeting of the Arts and Music commission won't be seen so much as a rare occurrence.
Austin may have challenges, but we also have some of the most creative, dedicated and resourceful people working on finding solutions.
In all the growth and challenges, there is also opportunity to shape the City to meet those challenges and be a welcoming, inclusive, diverse and sustainable and livable place for everyone.
Austin will create solutions; it has to. It's very future depends on it.
The conversation continues...
We hope that we are of service and contribute something meaningful to the Community.
